Mother nature's wrath

HHmmm.........I think my title already outlines what I am about to talk about in my post. Have any of you realized that since January, the WORLD has been struck by massive earthquakes? In the span of three months to be exact, there has been four earthquakes, starting with Haiti which took so many lives, followed by the Chile earthquake, three days ago, the earthquake that struck Mexico which had an effect on certain states in the USA such as California, Vegas and Arizona and just yesterday, the earthquake that struck Sumatra.............All of these earthquakes are not minor but huge ones ranging from 7-8.8 on the ritcher scale.

You know what is worst about this whole scenario? Human beings cannot control when an earthquake is going to happen, when it will begin, or end. Something that humans are doing to the earth is fundamentally wrong which is making mother nature angry, if you don't find it odd, I do!!!!!

Anyway, all these earthquakes have made me really anxious because I live in Hawaii, in the middle of the Pacific ocean which can be struck by tsunami's and there was an earthquake here before!! Aiks!!! It also got me thinking as to how we as inhabitants of the earth can do our parts in helping the environment, loving the aina(land/ earth in Hawaiian language). We can do our part in saving the earth just by doing simple things such as:

1. Saving water!!!!

By using excessive amounts of water, you are basically destroying habitats(because clean water comes from rain, lakes, etc). What do I mean by that? You are draining water from other living beings such as animals living in the jungle!!!! Or worse, drying up lakes, rivers, which means also destroying fish habitats! Don't you want to preserve these beautiful sceneries?

2. Stop using plastic bags, but use reusable bags?

It is really cheap to get bags such as these when you  go grocery shopping right? And, if you don't want to get this bag, just make sure you use your plastic bags again! You can use it as a rubbish bin holder....that's what I do:)

3. Don't drive if you can? You can walk, take the bus, cycle........BUT if you have absolutely have to drive, you can car-pool!! And if you do buy a car, buy an enviromentally friendly ones such as a prius, smart car or an electric vehicle. Not only are electric vehicles energy efficient, they release almost no air pollutants!

An electric vehicle, how cool is that????

There are basically alot more things you can do to be enviromentally friendly, Jason says it's like trying to be "organic". You can put it that way, but the difference is that if you eat only organic, it costs you alot more!!! In contrast, if you were environmentally friendly, you not only save the earth you are living in but you save money and you may be healthier(walking to school keeps your heart pumping!)

Look at how beautiful nature is....

So, let's each do our parts to save the land we live on. As the malay saying goes "sikit-sikit, lama-lama menjadi bukit". It basically means, even if I do a little and you do a little(e.g., using less tissue paper), it will all add up to benefit the earth! As long as we have the consciousness to care for the earth, I am sure mother nature wouldn't be so mad right? hehehe.....

P.S: These are the few tips that were off the top of my head to be environmentall friendly, but if you have more, please feel free to share it with the rest of us:)

cool, i wish i could remember who told me about Hale Macrobiotic so I could thank him/her for the tip!

also, when bringing snacks to share with your classmates, perhaps you could bring reusable plates/utensils instead of disposable plates/utensils. the only problem with that is that sometimes there are people who complain about having to lug them around and wash them. isn't that crei sze, mei sze?
