Happy Buuurrpppdaaaayyyy July gals!!!

The past month was definitely a whirlwind of birthday dinners/parties to attend!!!! To me, it was interesting how each and everyone of my girl friends wanted to celebrate their birthdays....ranging from very low key to super crazy!!!!!!!! If you believe in horoscopes, you would think that people of the same star sign probably have similar tastes, and interests right????? Not for these bunch of my friends..they may be born a few days apart from one another but are worlds apart......maybe the year, time and date plays a role too?????!!?

First birthday dinner I attended was Felicia's "just a normal night" dinner at Skewers....she was really hillarious...all of us were dress up for her birthday and she looked at me and said "But, tonight is just a normal dinner right? Not celebrating my birthday right?" lol!!! Babe...of course we came out to celebrate your birthday and we thought long and hard where to bring you for dinnner..........and yes..we dressed up for you:) HOpe you enjoyed it!!!
The following weekend.....we truly went out for "her celebration" at Frangipani's!

Happy Birtthhdaaay Julllesss!!!! Yes yes..I had to take a picture of the cake because it was beautiful and done just right!!!!
Naturally..every birthday..there must be a dinner mostly because we are Malaysians??!! hehehehe...this gal decided to go for crabs...her fav!!!!!! She can just eat crabs alone for dinner..and it MUST be the salted egg variety...(Guys listen up)...the way to her heart:p
As you can see...it's a polka dot themed night...we even had to stick red dots on our faces...yes we love you and we will stick red measle like dots on our faces for you:) Mostly because it's YOUR BIRTHDAY!hugggzzzz
Of course..full swing party at TDH after!! More polka dots whereever you go....everyone followed the theme..super retro..they played mambo music too!!!!
Even the guys...wore polka dots..yes "girlfriends"!!!

Leona Leona.....Happy birthday!!! Karaokkkkeeeeee!! weeeeeeeeee!!!!! We all went crazy that night...with a buffet dinner and karaoke fuled us for much dancing AND singing on the couch (more like just the girls)
Someone had an ingenious idea that each and everyone in the room had to feed her a piece of cake...which I thought was really cute.....you have to do something special "just coz it's your birthday" right??!!Amd yes..she was probably pretty stuffed to the brim with cake in 5 minutes!

HOw I See birthday celebrations is that you get to celebrate the day you were born only once every year right? So........make the best out of it.......do what YOU want to do...what You like to eat.... because it is YOUR day..and we as your friends and family..will definitely accomodate and celebrate the day with you:) As you can see....all these gal friends of mine had different kinds of celebrations but ultimately..they enjoyed it...and there was alot of laughter and gaiety!!!

Aspirations, hopes and dreams........

Having dinner in a beautiful restaurant one night with a couple of friends.........we had an interesting conversation about "hopes and dreams"! You are thinking......man......aren't you a little too old to ask yourself "What would I want to be when I grow up?" Actually, from my perspective, there is no time or limit to aspirations or hopes for something a person wants to achieve because these dreams can encompass something as simple as "I want a job" to "I hope to be the prime minister in the future".

As our conversation went on that night, I realized that each and everyone of us had different opinions on what they aspire to achieve for in life. Some of us aimed to give back to the society ultimately, others dream to to extremely rich and another one aspired to do some self exploration in hopes of being a great parent! Hearing all these aspirations and most importantly looking at how my friends are trying to achieve it is very motivating and enlightening. Given that I originally thought that there is only one route to achieving my dreams, I pursued it wholeheartedly even when I realized that it wasn't for me.......now I realized that there is many ways to achieving your dreams, and that I should follow the path that suits me, and I am most happy with. Thanks to the support from my family and friends, I would say that I am on that path, although different than my original one and might be a challenge, I embrace it fully because it took me quite a number of years to realize it, and I am enjoying every bit of it. One of my best friends is also pursuing a path of self exploration in a foreign country because she wants to find out the career she feels passionately about, and I always encouraged her because I know in the end, she is learning and experiencing so much more by venturing into the unknown...

Be strong babe! The first step to trying something new with a brand, spanking new hairdo!

One of the main reasons that hinder many people from "dreaming" is the fact that they are hindered by fears! I know quite a few people who are afriad to send their resumes out to companies when it is not directly related to their majors, or are just plain afraid to go for interviews, and yet they complain about not having jobs. From how I see it, what's wrong with sending your resumes out to many companies, you don't lose anything if they don't call you back, whereas you have possibility to gain a job if they do:) My grandmother once told me before: "Mei Sze, when I was young, I was not afraid of anything because I have an abled body and I know I can somehow find my way to survive. If I have what you have right now(e.g., family support, financial means, etc.), I will be able to do/be anything!" . I truly admire my grandmother because she was one person that was willing to work hard to earn a living back then, she was a canteen operator, hairstylist, etc. Given that the circumstances are different now for some of us, I agree with her that we should go ahead and pursue happiness/dreams without any fears...........

I write this because I want to tell people out there, unsure of their life paths, and are stuck in a rut....For example, wanting to pursue a whole different career but are afraid to because of comfort and habit....afraid to pursue a degree in the arts because their parents keep drilling in them that they cannot find a job in that area.......... these are just some stories I have encountered and hearing these stories also push me to write this post......to tell you...

DON'T BE AFRAID TO DREAM! AND DREAM BIG AT THAT!

Kl Live Showdown!

Boatful of energy is what I call my Malaysian friends! You are wondering why I say this right???!!?? Well......since coming back here.....there seems to be events almost every other day, be it birthdays, karaoke sessions, dinners, lunches, etc. At first, I thought.."hhmm...maybe it's just because it's the middle of the year and hence alot of events are happening".....BUT NOPE! I soon find out....my friends.....and alot of other Urban youth in KL go out every night till the wee hours of the morning, and they still have the energy to get up early to go to work/school the next day......I know I know..those that know me probably think "it's because I am an ah-ma(Grandmother)" but I promise you, my friends from other countries who visit think so too!!!! So guys...if you are reading this....what is the secret to the endless amounts of energy??!!??

Anyway, I am writing this particular post to highlight our very own Malaysian version of "America's best dance crew" which is called "KL Live showdown". The best dance crews are picked from nationwide auditions to enter this competition which is aired live on tv. Thanks to my beloved girlfriend, we manage to get tickets to the finals, whicch was supppper packed! Given the fact that I llooooooovveeee dancing(some say I dance like a "monkey") because I can go crazy dancing just listening to music!!! Offended as I should be...its true:)
Taking snapshots before entering....very excited as you can tell from our faces!!
Judges table....scary!
Ju and Prem hosting Quickie before the opening
Slides of the show throughout the whole season...
Wakaka crew's first dance, they danced to Shakira's waka waka world cup song! How apt!The best part of the performance was the beginning, in which the leader glided down from the top on a Malaysian flag. Element of surprise +1 point! However, I found that they weren't synchronized at all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I found it messy!!
Floor Fever crew.....A mixture of girls and guys, they were awesome! Very creative outfits, dance moves were sharp, and loved their expressions!!!!You know....expressions are really important when someone dances.....you want to see smiley and pumped up faces right???!!
Gillar Battle Crew....also another creative concept, they used shadow play for the whole dance....
For the second round of dances by all the teams, I only manage to take a few pictures of Floor Fever because it was really packed and I was soooo impressed with this team that I made sure I took a few pictures of them for all of you to see:) Their second dance..they used drums to start followed by a clean, tight, and mind blowing performance...I think they can be as sharp as the Jabba Wonkies!

Buuut......due to votes from the rest of the viewers and probably a sttttrrrrooonng fan base.....the Wakaka crew won.... Man!! I was soo upset because I had a wager with a friend of mine that Floor Fever would win...and they SHOULD have.....

I guess from what I heard, Wakaka won because they were reeealllyy good during the dance off battles...the final two crews at the end of every round will battle it out, free style dancing! I guess...in a way....they can think on their toes??? hehehe.....well Congratulations Wakaka crew!!!

In my opinion, some of these dance crews are really good and have the potential to be make it big!!! And to be honest, I am really happy that the dance and arts community in Malaysia is expanding so much.....we have so many arts center that stage plays, musicals and stuff now! This just inspires me to want to form my own dance crew......hehee..anyone interested?

Indulgence in Bangkok(Literally)- Final 2 days!

The last two days of my Bangkok trip was pure indulgence as I call it because we were spending alot of time "indulging" in our favourite pastimes....not only were we shopping, we spend quite a good amount of both days in spas!!! This time, our shopping was not contained in malls but rather out in the open, where we got to see fascinating stuff(from all types of animals, to furniture, to art,and of course food!), it is practically an all in one market place which is none other than the Chak tuk Chak market! Can you imagine how big it is, if they have shuttle vans going around to pick people from point to point??!!??

All types of fishes for sale...from miniature ones to large, shark-like ones!!!
Poor animals were all caged up..hardly any breathing space:(
The worst and most unexpected event I witness were cock fights right in the middle of the myriad of animals in cages! It was really inhumane because they allow two cocks to fight untill one dies:(
Of course, one of the main reasons we were there was to see puppies!!! They were cute as ever! And two crazy gals on the trip wanted to buy a puppy back to Malaysia! And I asked..how are we going to bring the puppy back....the wittty reply was "Let's just buy an air ticket for the puppy"!!! hhmm..........if only it was that easy!!:)
Of course, they had "normal stuff" such as clothes, shoes.... but who wants to see that after what we have seen right? hehehee...
Delicious food! I really liked how they were so enthusiastic to sell skewered meat to us:)
This is the best coconut ice cream I have tasted! And you know what??? I don't even like coconut ice cream! Whoever that goes to Chak tuk Chak has to buy this particular ice cream which is housed in a coconut husk, and there are nuts sprinkled all over the ice cream, plus they give you free coconut water!!! Just a little taste of heaven in your mouth!!!
After a long day of being in Chak tuk Chak, we headed to Health land spa for some TLC(tender loving care)! Before we headed in, we were served lavendar tea...aromatic!
All of us had individual rooms, I highly recommend this spa because of it's great service, relaxing ambience, and of course, the price was awesome for 2 1/2 hours of pampering to your body!
That night, we opted to be dressy, and headed to Sky bar!
The view from up top was amazing, you can see the Chao Phraya river from the bar...bbbeaauutiffull!!! Very romantic for couples....
Ben showing us the suit he made in just three days! They made everything, from the shirt inside, to the blazer and pants...and it was ridiculously cheap(much cheaper than my crappy suit I bought from Express which only had the blazer, and trousers...ggrrr..)

The last day, we decided to take it slow and easy.... headed to Siam square for some last minute shopping, and facials..... I was seriously done with shopping that day, but I was amazed at the amount of energy the rest of the girls had for shopping! You go girls!!!!
We all decided to head out in our Club Sze t-shirts.... it was a day of Club Sze out and about in Bangkok peeps!
Our last group picture before we headed to the airport!*sob*
We had to take a picture with our driver who was soo accomodating to our wimps and fancies for four days! I bet you he probably doesn't ever want to pick Malaysians up anymore.....we were singing like crazy in the car!!! how can we not???!! There was a karaoke set in the van!

Bye Bye Bangkok!

What can I say??? It was an awesome trip , had great bonding sessions with each and everyone of my close friends...and the best part, they got to know each other better too:) Sometimes, it is not what we see on the trip, such as how many tourist attractions we manage to suqeeze in,etc, BUT the idea of who you spent it with, and the camarederie of experiencing another country with a group of people you like.........and most importantly, having fun!
