The latest MUST HAVE comfy footwear in town!

Who doesn't love a comfy pair of sandals which looks good AND is great for toning your legs???????  For those who have been following this brand.....Yes, it's called FitFlops and it's here in Malaysia!!!!!!! YAY!!!!!!!! Previously, my friend, Henry from the USA came over and told me that there was this brand called "FitFlop" in Malaysia...I was pretty blur..I asked him....are you sure it's called Fitflops and not Birkenstocks??????? LOL! He was pretty certain.....and lo and behold....it really is in Malaysia!!!!

It's sold in a shop called Bratpack....and they recently launched the 2nd Bratpack outlet in Hartamas Shopping Center(opposit SaSa)!!!  Was recently invited for the launch of their second Bratpack store........actually went to view FitFlops and all the other limited edition brands in Malaysia!!!Always up for comfy footwear:p

There you go... Fitflop, Native, and other types of  footwear carried by Bratpack.....COLORFUL!!!!All ranges...from male to female, and even for.....

CHILDREN! Look at how cute that shoe is.....*swoon*

With Christina and Oscar who came along....:)

Christina Ng and I have not attended an event together for sooo long!!!!! I had loads of fun with you woman....!!!! Muuuuaxxxx

The unveiling of Bratpack.....

Ta-da!! The whole store was decked out in all types of footwear.... of course...with models too...If only, they were there everyday right?????? What I really liked about the fashion show was the fact that the models wore white...the focus was then purely on their footwear..

A preview for what's in store for you before you head there.....hehehehe...

Loving the white laces...clearly stands out even thougth the color is muted brown...

sexy RED! She definitely makes those shoes very HOT!

I know...bad photography skills....gulp! Guilty as charged... However, I do like the pleated design on these grey shoes...

White laces is definitely the trend for these line of shoes....not complaining though...

Now, for the best part of the show........

Kids parading the children's line of footwear! This was our favourite kid model...so confident and has the cutest smile..teehee...

This little boy was so small in size...he needed to be carried......aawwww...

Told you the older one was was confident...he was directing the younger one on what to do....really taking care of him...... such good values since young.... definitely a heart breaker!! Little girls out there be warned!!

What I was waiting for.......the FitFlop sandals!!!!!! Managed to only take this one...my favourite pair!!

The finale shot.... All looking good:)

We got goodie bags with................... vouchers inside!!!! Yippie!!!! They gave us RM50 vouchers for any footwear in the store...Time to make use of it!!

Christina and I got busy trying the footwear...was like a mad rush in a pasar malam(night market)! But we manage to secure two pairs with our sizes....I, of course chose the white one with gems...was eyeing it on the model already *winks*

Christina's Fitflops were RM399, mine was RM299(but to console ourselves...we had an RM50 voucher off right??????).... The whole concept of FitFlops was what sold me to these sandals...These sandals were designed for people who have scoliosis, back problems, and even helps tone muscles....you might think it is not true, that it's a sales gimmick, but it is TRUE!! Tried and tested... the sign tells you to wear it progressively as your muscles may hurt after awhile...and guess what? I DID NOT adhere to the instructions and wore it for a whole day, I had extremely sore muscles the night after and couldn't even sleep:(

We were definitely happy purchasers..but I guess for us..it's more like spending time shopping with one another and getting a good deal(like aunties)!!

Before you head to this store all geared up for some shopping, please be aware that there aren't any high heels in sight! This store I believe is purely for those who enjoy wearing flats(girls I mean, guys don't really have many choices....soweeee!) and aim for comfort while looking trendy....For all you yoga enthusiasts out there, they also carry the brand Sanuk which is famous for yoga mats :)

Although the footwear is a little pricey, I recommend it for people who are lazy to exercise(er...like me and some of my friends...hehehehe)....it not only tones your leg muscles but it helps correct your posture too...so why not spend a little more if it helps prevent further back problems??????

The PSYCHOlogy lecturer @ Inti University College

Guess who's the newest Psychology lecturer in Inti University  College Subang???????????????

Yeap, it's lil ol me!!!! You are probably wondering.....wait...doesn't she do a myriad of other things? Yes I do..... but if you recall, I am afterall two sides to a coin...I am back in Malaysia to pursue two different career paths simultaneously...one the academic which is more research and now lecturing(it helps in my CV as a PhD student!I am kiasu, I know!)...the other is the entertaintment side, as a host/emcee and model. I guess I always knew I couldn't just do one...because I need to be creative as well as studious? Does that make sense? LOL! I am thoroughly enjoying doing both though...because I have come to realized..... My full time job is communicating(I am a very verbose person)...I lecture in the morning....and I emcee events in the afternoon and night........:)So, don't be suprise if you see me doing both in one day!

Soon enough...the dream of fusing the academic and entertaintment will come true!!! A talk show on youth and parent-child issues....wootz~

Lecturing in Malaysia is truly different from lecturing in the US(held lab sessions for Psy100 in the U of Hawaii at Manoa). My first class in Malaysia was LOADS of FUN! Why? The students(most of them fresh from high school) were inquisitive, compliant, and a breeze to teach! Compared to my class in the US, most of my students were older than me, and not to mention BIGGER size than me!!! They challenged me in everything I said and some were rather disrespectful...tsk tsk! Stark cultural differences!

And here are my lovely students...... from all over Malaysia, Singapore and Sri Lanka....

Both of these groups were actually in a debate I organized...so I thought I capture some pictures of them...

During the course of the semester....I usually had activities during class..and one of them was to bring in a guest speaker....

David Lai, The mentalist...we were talking about extrasensory perception..... and he was a classic example of that...

The whole class enjoying his mentalism.... especially Kenji(guy in blue), first time seeing him so alert!

After the semester was over.....I took them out for lunch(don't usually practise this) because they all did well and like I said.... a great class! Can you guys spot the difference between the lecturer and students???????LOL! worrying picture!BTW,  You guys made teaching a pleasure.....Thanks~

Before I started and even now, alot of my friends wonder how I can be a lecturer..common comments were...

" You look like one of them!! You will surely be bullied"

And a few others I shall not mention.....hehe... Hence, I was rather hesitant as to what I would expect from the students in Malaysia. I figured they wouldn't be like my students from the USA, I expected an extremely quiet class and a lack of class participation.....BUT my expectations were blown far beyond the waters....they were very interactive with me and all of us have gained quite a good rapport with one another.... I guess I don't want to be a lecturer that gets disillusioned by students being naughty and bad...but rather to keep my passion of sharing knowledge alive by being a part of the class...my students even know the other side of me... *winks*

But I tell them...doesn't mean I will be less lenient with you guys! Will be teaching another class again in Fall 2011...hope my next one will be as great as my first:) can't wait! In the end, we are all learning from one another!

DJ Keli Hart LIVE in Ecoba

[Advertorial]

It's time for another fabulous party at Ecoba!! This time it's presented by Carlsberg in conjunction with their DJ Spin party series...... and don't stop reading yet...it's not your run of the mill type of DJ's....they are HOT female Dj's!!!!!

The recent one at Bakita was sizzling hot with Dj Sassy Pandez....

She's apparently very tall too.....

Not only are there hot dj's!! There are HOT dancers...reminds me of Go go dancers in hawaii!! They had sexy dancers in most clubs.... and you get to put money in their shorts, or bikinis while they are dancing....cool eh? Don't think it's like that in Malaysia;p Not only will the guys stuffing money be caught, but also the dancers! LOL

This Friday, May 20th, the last DJ in this series spinning will be DJ Keli Hart from the land down under!

As you can tell..another sizzling hot babe!

A little bit about her:

Australian Keli Hart is all about striking a perfect balance between underground sound and floor fillers. Keli’s purest love is for sexy, sassy, dirty electro house mixed with tech & fidget elements. Keli single-handedly turns humble dance floors into worshiping grounds for music lovers played alongside the likes of Internationals: Sharam Jey (GERMANY), Niels Van Gogh (GERMANY), Kid Dub (UK), Soul Avengerz (UK), Skull Juice (UK), Don Diablo (NETHERLANDS), Three (USA), Carl Kennedy (USA), Hannah Holland (UK), etc.

So, if you are up for some partying and or would like to enjoy some Carlsberg while having a lovely, hot DJ spinning, come on down to Ecoba this Friday.....ppssst: heard some of the Malaysian hottest bloggers will also be there....:)

Haagen Dazs Ice Cream Smoothie Launch = HEAVEN!

It's been terribly hot the past few days right?????? Can you believe it? I am STILL not use to the Malaysian weather since coming back from Hawaii. If you are wondering..
"isn't the Malaysian weather similar to the weather in Hawaii'?

The answer to that question is a resounding NO! Hawaii actually has a winter where you get to see the drop in temperature..I wouldn't dare to go to the beach if I were you during that time..you will most likely be freezing in your bikini!!! And the sight of hair standing on ends is definitely not a sight you want!

Anyway, back to the topic... I was thanking my lucky stars when I was invited to the launch of the Haagen Dazs Ice cream smoothie!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I wouldn't miss it for the world because I am IN LOVE with ice cream(if I could choose, I would say ice cream is my favourite food, but it's not technically a type of food right?), particularly Haagen Dazs since I was a child... Yes, high maintenance I know...eeeppp!!!! But just for Ice cream....*promise*

The huge ice cream fondue sign at the door caught my eye already!!! *wipes sweat of my brow*

Greeted by the friendly staff of Brandthink! I was attracted to their colorful attire! I DID not know that the dress code was Summer dresses...... again... another embarrassment! *Blush*

Note to self: Start reading invitations properly!!

The event kickstarted with Fay Hokulani hosting the event..... Loving her purple dress!!!!

And then................. suprise suprise!!!! An ice cream show??? Models are basically parading  the two new summer flavours! These two lovely models in pink were displaying the Raspberry and Summer Berries Smoothie Flavour!

And these models in sunshine yellow were displaying the Mango and Apricot ice cream smoothie flavour

The line up of stunning models and their ice cream....boo hoo! I finally understood why summer dresses!!!
Your ice cream smoothie flavour UP CLOSE and PERSONAL!

And then HEAVEN begins............

First, we had Summer Romance(RM32)... Ooh La La! This creation consisted of each scoop of their latest Haagen Daaz smoothie flavours served with complimenting sorbet flavours...see that little red scoop in between?Plus, it's drizzled with fresh fruits, Aloe Vera cubes and fruit slices! REFRESHING!!!!!!

Yes, Ash and I were so hooked on it, we basically emptied the plate in seconds??????

My all time favourite creation would be Endless Summer(29) which consisted of scoops of Raspberry and summer berries smoothie, mango and apricot smoothie, macadamia nut brittle and green tea ice cream served with their respective toppings in miniature glasses! Why it is my favourite? It's a great blend of sour and sweet! You can start with the most sour ones first working your palates to the sweeter scoops of ice cream after:)

Ash with the green tea flavoured one...yummy!!!

It's all mine!!!!!!!!!!!

Now for the third creation I really liked....... Summer Eclipse(RM29). There are four sccops of ice cream consisting of the two ice cream smoothie flavours, mango andc raspberry sorbet and macadamia nut briuttle served with fruits, waffle chips and whipped cream! This creation is simple yet fulfills an ice cream lovers crave!!!!!!

Slurping the Jamaican Dance(RM28) up quickly!!!! Thanks John for the awesome pic of me looking greedy!!!

I would say this is an extremely healthy smoothie! Great pick up after half a day's work? it's basically a blend of Mango and apricot smoothie, mango sorbet and FRESH FRUITS like strawberry kiwi(ooh, exotic), and green apple.

All our post ice cream pictures!! As you can tell, all of us were happy campers for the day!!!

What delighted me about the whole event was that....Haagen Dazs was very generous with their ice cream. Our table had endless amounts of ice cream creations and beverages literally flowing in...once a particular dish is empty, the waiters will bring us another one!!!!!!! And THAT is what I call CLASSY!I thoroughly dislike events or people who stinge on food!!!

The "Mango and Apricot" and "Raspberry and Summer berries" ice cream smoothie flavours are limited edition flavours. All the above creations shown were also placed in their limited edition menu...which means...everything shown will be taken away after the end of July!!! So.....HURRY guys!!! Go and try all these new flavours and dine in creations before it ends!!!!!!!!!!! Trust me on this..I am an ice cream fanatic! If it is NOT good, I won't recommend it..Plus, you can't go too far wrong with Haagen Dazs *winks*

The Beatles Unplugged....For Japan!

Have you forgotten about the terrible earthquake and tsunami that ravaged parts of Japan two months ago?????

That's the thing with us human beings....we easily forget about things that we are not in contact with daily.....and sometimes...you even forget that.....such as your parents!!!tsk tsk on those that always say they are too busy for their loved ones.... This time, I am here to jolt your memory on the series of events that led to a huge disaster in Japan which caused many lives and thousands of others to be homeless...

If you have stopped caring about the Japanese, they are still trying to "clean up" the debris, destroyed houses, schools, etc. lying on their roads(if it is still intact). And some are probably still living in shelters, surviving on what is fed to them.... it's NOT time to turn a blind eye to their plight.......

An organization called Flip(For the love in people) which was established in Melbourne, Australia recently brought my attention to how the organizers(who are just normal citizens like YOU) are still active in asking for donations for Japan. This organization was founded by a group of Malaysians living in Melbourne who wanted to do good by organizing charity events to assist natural disaster funds all over the world! And they have organized quite a few, but their recent efforts are currently concerted towards helping Japan ...Yes, they are organizing an interesting charity event to raise funds in Malaysia....What do I mean by interesting?

It's called The Beatles Unplugged where you get to see local artistes performing at Rootz in Kuala Lumpur....

These local bands are popular in the industry and you have probably heard of them before such as Bittersweet, Ask Me Again, Reza Salleh, Darren Ashley, Decimal, and Mama Sons. I know that it will be a fun, hip, and trendy charity event! Because it fuses charity with creativity:)

Instead of forgetting, or worse still not caring, why not....attend the Beatles Unplugged with your friends, partner, or family....not only do you get to enjoy great music and party with you friends, you are actually doing something GOOD for the society!!!!

Tickets are priced at RM20(very affordable) per entry and RM250 for a table(guessing the table fits 10)...and the best part is that all of the proceed goes to the Malaysian Red Crescent society.... Plus, if you don't trust Project Flip...go to their website....all of their budget and overall profit will be posted on it at Project FLIP!Transparency is always good.....*thumbs up*

Don't miss out the opportunity to help!!! Its at 7pm this Saturday(May14)!! You can contact Ash at 0162726313 or Ernest at 0102261616 for tickets.

xoxo
Meiz

P.S., I am really glad that readers out there see me as an avenue to publicize events on any charity endeavors! I will definitely support your event if it's non-profit and if it's for a good cause:)

Bullying is NOT cool!

A sense of self worth destroyed, feelings of helplessness, despair, sometimes even contemplating suicide.........does this sound familiar to you?

It does if you were once a bully victim or still are!! And for those who are or were bullies...this is what you DON'T feel or experience as the aggressor....you experience the opposite...being looked up to because people are afraid of you, and actually even gaining popularity from it.....Speaking from a psychological perspective(Yes, the Phd student in psychology kicking in which means....NERD alert!), it is not what is wrong with these students that their peers admire bullies, BUT it's the herd mentality of he/she is stronger, prettier, assertive and we should look up to that! THese bullies are basically reinforced for their wrongdoing... and not to mention, they could have come from aggressive households which portrays that type of behavior or encourages it.......

Being from a co-ed school, I see the dynamic of bullies and victim all the time... myself experiencing it before but not to the extent of:

The girl from SMK Raja Adbullah(Disgusting...I can't believe these girls are only 13!)...I am not sure whether suspending them for 14 days is enough....FOOD FOR THOUGHT: Why is it that the victim has to transfer school and not the bullies? Why should the victim be the one that is ashame and not the bullies?

OR

The famous case of Casey Heynes

What I experienced during high school was not as bad as these two cases...I guess...this would be a tell all into what it feels like being a victim... Freedom of writing right?? I basically experience being bullied in high school and college...mostly by girls.... Although most people think that females are the softer, calmer, nicer species....I beg to differ based on research I have read, am about to conduct,
and personal experience..... They do the nastiest things behind your back mainly to destroy your reputation...In high school, I got socially ostracized, slanderous rumours spread about me, and I guess the worst would be seeing my name scrawled in red paint all over the toilet..... You would think it stops in high school, but NOPE, these girls continued up until college....it's all about the B****ing, spreading rumours, and gossiping to destroy your social standing, self worth...and ultimately reputation?

Due to all the aforementioned "demoralization", I had extremely low self esteem...although no one could tell except my mom.... I had self doubts about my abilities, be it socially or academically. Worse still, it came to a point where I started blaming myself for the bullying that I experienced. If it weren't for my mom who was there to talk to me, basically help me through my school years(I would often come home crying), I wouldn't have achieved what I have today. Of course, I had a few great friends through my high school that was there for me through thick and thin which I am grateful for..... and we are still friends up till now:)

For those bullies out there, if you are doing this for some self serving purpose( e.g., acquire popularity), I am not sure whether you know...but you could have scarred some people for life...They could have been someone great but because of your insensitivity and aggression, you destroyed a person's hope and believe in their selves. Plus, it's NOT something to laugh about... but actually feel guilty....unless you are an animal and DOES not have a guilty conscience..then I pity you!

For those bully victims, please know that you are not alone! That there are many people who care about you such as your teachers, parents, and the rest of the community. We are here to give you support in building a bright future..don't fall prey into a world of self doubt and despair..pick yourself up and grow stronger everyday....:) Most importantly you are not to blame for what has happened.... DON"T GIVE UP!

As for the rest of you who were laughing or not doing anything while these videos were filmed or when you see someone getting bullied in school, what you can do is to...

1. Report it to your teacher
2. If it gets out of hand, get a few friends to step in and help
3. DO NOT reinforce these bullies behavior by admiring or looking up to them!

Let's STOP bullying by looking out for one another alright?

P.S.: If you know anymore cases in your high school, need help, or have experiences as a victim...voice it out! Post a comment or email me...Afterall, my expertise is in developmental psychology *winks*

My food hunt in Melaka!!!!

Good news my local and foreign travellers visiting Malaysia, I finally made my long awaited trip back  to Melaka!!! Although I went for work this time, the greedy ol me will NOT miss out on a chance for a food tour of my own...I manage to take a myriad of pictures and even checked out a few restaurants for your gastronomical pleasure:)

After searching high and low with a VERY hungry stomach, the first place we went to for dinner would be this traditional nyonya eatery located at Jalan Melaka called......

1. Restoran Bibik Nyonya...It's pretty hard to detect with the naked eye but you can see the traditional sign board from the outside if you stare hard enough!

We ate the appetizer "keropok"(crackers in Malay) within seconds!!! Girls CAN be as greedy as boys when we are hungry ok??? Forgive us..it was 930pm!

Our first three dishes...the otak-otak, fried egg(extremely well done!), and chicken ponyet(if I am not mistaken...correct me if I am wrong)

Assam Fish! This assam fish is a little different from the usual as it has more coconut milk in it...it's nevertheless delicious...

I suggest you guys check out this place as the owner was very accommodating(he delayed closing the shop because we arrived late...*sweet*) and he even passed us his name card which I snapped for you guys

Everybody knows..when you set foot in Melaka, you have to get your mouth on some 2. chicken rice balls right? If you don't know...I am here to let YOU know!!!! Go get some! It tastes great with steamed chicken and it's also a local delicacy..

This time we did not go to the famous one on Jongker street but one which is perpendicular to Jalan Melaka.... They published their reviews on their walls! Hard core marketing right there..

Lunch for three people! I know...girls eat like giant nowadays:) NOT the least bit embarrassed by it:p

Can you peek at the chicken rice balls we were going to put in our mouths???? Unfortunately I developed food poisoning after this....Not blaming the chicken rice ball shop but just be careful alright guys? Could be due to my extra sensitive stomach...aiks!

When you visit Melaka, a MUST do is 3. Jongker's street...I won't miss it for the world!!Furthermore, they have now renovated it so it looks much better for tourists....like me*blushes*

The beginning of a very crowded walk!

My first stop which I have been craving for since the last time I ate it...candied fruits!!!! Yum yum Yum!!!! My sweet tooth satisfied...

I ordered huge grapes with honey....

In the middle of jongker street, there is a coffee shop I frequent which serves the best Assam Laksa, Durian cendol and wan tan mee!!!!

The interior which is always packed with people

Durian and banana cendol

Iceky, Jessy, and Jacky clearly agreed with me...we ordered everything the restaurant had to offer! greediness kicked in!

Just to inform you...Melaka bottles their own soft drinks and juice... You get authenticity right here.... and the bottles are all different but cute!!! * I like*

Nicole and her sarsi! How long have you not heard the word sarsi right??!?

At the end of the night, you can sit by the riverside and just enjoy the sights..it's really pweeeettyyyy!!!! It reminds me of Venice...swoons!

And if you need your steamboat fix..I recommend a well known steamboat branch 4. Johnny's at Dataran Pahlawan...You are probably wondering why I am recommending what we have in KL BUT it's because I found the prices on the menu in Melaka cheaper *teehee* and it still tastes as good!!!

And for those who really want to experience Melaka the Old-skool way...You 5. have to sit the trishaw(or what we call the beca in Malay)

My parents came to visit...Thus, my mom and I decided to travel all over Melaka in a beca to avoid the massive traffic jam! Ugh!! Everyone from KL went to Melaka it seems...
They are really pretty and brightly litted...and come on guys!! Instead of wasting money polluting the air by driving around, why not preserve nature and give some business to the trishaw riders at the same time? Killing two birds with one stone is what I call efficient!

I wouldn't say I know alot about Melaka... But after visiting so many states in Malaysia due to emceeing work, I feel that Melaka is one place that not only has history but also the old town charm that still exudes form this small state in Malaysia:) Possibly my retirement place???

xoxo
Meiz

P.S.: All tourists SHOULD definitely check out Melaka when they visit Malaysia!!!! Yes, all my foreign readers!
