My most nerve wrecking experience all the way in CHINA

I will be facebookless and twitterless for the next 5 days in China... *boo hoo* This is my first test without online social networking!!!!

Why I'm headed to China all of a sudden? Because I will be presenting at an international conference(The Asian Association of Social Psychology) all by myself in Kunming, China to some of the greatest minds in the world of psychology....KILL ME!!! My professor won't be there which makes the level of anxiety much higher....GULP

The upside...it will be held in a city which I've never been to before and from is extremely picturesque, that is the part I hope I can enjoy after the presentation

The Stone Mountains

I've hosted so many events from corporate to lifestyle ones and this is BY FAR, the most anxiety provoking "event" for me.....Although it's the same, talking and managing a crowd, it's a whole different ball game when the topic is sooooo specific and I'm a small fry in a huge academic world.... wish me luck guys!!!!! Will be updating via my blog:)

Stand a chance to win Il Volo Live in Malaysia tickets on 30th of July!

They are an eclectic mix of pop, boy band good looks, and powerhouse vocals! Did I mention they are also sexy Italians?????

Recently performed on American Idol 2011 stunning the crowd by belting out with their Tenor voices..I'm sure the crowd was expecting Westlife or Backstreet boys but got this instead...

Don't they remind you of a typical boyband from the outside? But once they start crooning, they are the male versions of Mariah Carey but with sexier voices?????

And guess what? They will be in Malaysia on 30th July performing at Bentley Auditorium, Mutiara Damansara!

Me? The fastest runner in Malaysia?

YEAH RITE!!!!! I can only have that in my daydreams......

But I did get the chance to*try* after being invited by Advertlets to the recent PUMA FAAS launch.....I assumed the launch was held indoors in the concourse area of One Utama, so............I happily dressed in my "smart casual" wear with my high heels. When I got there.... I found an outdoor area with a running strip... *Gasps*

The first thing I saw while still standing there in my high heels!!!!If only I knew....I would have been so happy to come in sports attire and trainers.....

Time for a game console challenge....

You know why I tried? Coz they gave me a pair of shoes to wear:p and NO, I'm not so vain...that was just warm up peeps...

A seiko timekeeper to find the fastest runner

Getting ready for the real stuff... a 25 m sprint

Adjusting my jeans for the run...I need comfort right?!?!

Totally "undress" for the 25m run!but...who cares???? I'm gonna try to be the fastest girl in Malaysia:p

And OFF I GO!!!!!

TA-DA! 3rd...not too shabby for a girl that doesn't exercise right?!? Who am I kidding...I was panting like crazy after running...

Sure Mazin was inspired..his turn to warm up before the run

Headed for a cool icy drink before I left with my best friend who was as dressed up too due to *my mistake* (Don't blame me this time, I didn't get the dress code) But hey, this is the FIRST time I'm overdressed and not the other usual way around where I am underdressed......lol...If I can only get it right for once!

Well, at least I tried to be the fastest runner in Malaysia:) But I basically did it because I was challenged by a few people around me !! I'm always up for a challenge *winkz* and er..... LOST! There's always a next year I hope.....which means....time to get my butt moving and start exercising! That goes for all you inactive people out there!!

Discovery at Menara Star!!

My recent trip to Menara Star where all business regarding our news published in the Star newspaper daily was a delight! Found many unexpected things in the lobby of the building itself. Yup, and I've decided to share it with all of you....

Not only was the interior of the lobby grand, I was actually greeted by friendly receptionists!!!! While waiting for a friend of mine and the reporter, me, being the nosy girl that I am decided to walk around a bit....Guess what I found??? A sort of "digital museum" of The Star newspaper!!!I am guessing people usually have to wait for someone at the lobby, and they decide to educate people about their newspaper through the museum?!?!

Their memorable journey plastered on the wall

A photo gallery of eventful happenings in Malaysia....I know...high tech!!

First in............

Did NOT know that they were associated with some of the best radio stations in Malaysia

Famous Chinese channel, 98.8

Red FM

Suria FM

The monitors displayed are actually touch screens where you can browse the news of today, as well as their online portals

The HUGE seating area where you can also watch the news from

Another feature I was impressed with was the fact that they had a scanner for identification cards of guests to the building...You only see that in.....er... airports???

THe ID scanner with the STAR logo

My purpose of being there?

For an interview and shoot with The Star for Urban Chic!!!(Thanks Tim for the pics*winkz*)

Honestly, I wrote this post because I was surprise and enamoured by the fact that the newspaper which I have been reading since young is so established and COOL! I loved the fact that I actually learned about their history(NERD ALERT) and passed my time in a productive way while waiting.....and the best part, it was sooo unexpected to have the lil museum over there:)

You go STAR! And thank you Jastin(reporter) and Star Metro for featuring me! If you are interested to find out more, you can read the interview online here

Unbelievable Penang!!!!

I promise you that this is an unbelievable post not because of the food but in the proccess of food hunting....WHAT I saw amongst the hawkers working in Penang!!!

When locals think of Penang, the first word that comes to our mind is FOOD! Be warned, try not to salivate while reading this...

At the corner of Kimberly street, there is an amazing coffee shop that serves local delicacies for the night owls. Me, of course feeling hungry at about 9.30pm got a friend who was thrilled to be a local tour guide to take us out for dinner, or was it supper? I couldn't remember...EEP! And...in one lil tong sui shop, we could get all of the food below:

Koay Chiap,a mixture of tangy noodles with eggs and intestines(found this part after gobbling it down)

 Famous Char Koay Teow

The opposite, Koay Teow noodle soup which was extremely tasty!

Dessert, two types of tong sui, my favourite is the one with lotus seeds

We couldn't leave for a long time hoping that the rain would abade... But, we were alerted by the restaurant owner to MOVE OUR CAR, THERE'S A FLOOD!!!!!

Ben bracing the flood to move the car...water was ankle deep by that time

This is the amazing part, the hawkers were still frying char koay teow even when the flood was way past ankle deep!!!!! Even cars couldn't cross through by that time but they were diligently working in the flood and rain without stopping

I couldn't believe what I saw! WOW!!!! I wanted to give them a huge hug and say, "you've made my day" because when you think you are hardworking sometimes and hating your job, look at them.... The scene itself is a true sign of hardwork and dedication right there to earn money even when a flood was happening around them! Many people would have closed their stalls at the first sign of rain, what more a FLOOD?

After the "harrowing" flood experience, we headed to a new area called Straits Quay which I was highly impressed with. Penang reminds me of Singapore, it is now so clean and organized! You go Penang!

The concourse area

Many restaurants and bar overlooking the dock for yatchs, *one can only dream of owning one at the moment*

With my trusty friend and tour guide, Nicole:)

Trees were surrounding us while we were chilling at the German Bar

This beer is a MUST to try for those people who love sweet beverages...Like I said, I don't drink but after trying a sip of this, I actually liked it!!! Huge achievement for me ok!

Finally got to come here with Ben who has been raving about Straits Quay

The next night, Nicole brought me to another coffee shop which served the best hokkien mee I have ever tasted!! It's called Old Green House!

This is one bowl of century egg porridge you don't want to miss! I ate the whole bowl!

And the best Hokkien Mee EVER!!!!!!!!!

All the above places were recommended by a local who knows here way around and is proud of Penang. If you do head there, I do suggest you try out these places....and did I mention, the hospitality in Penang is so warm and friendly? After this trip, I'm thinking of retiring there in the future(I know! Too young to think but who knows?!? Maybe I can retire by 40?hehehehe) Food's good, people are nice AND hardworking, clean, etc, what's not to like?

After a hearty meal, it's time for work!!!!!!! The difference between the Stellar artistes and many of us is the fact that they enjoy what they do(performing), unlike some of us who always complain about work *ugh*
