Damai Laut resort NOT up to par

During the long CNY break, I manage to squeeze in some time for a holiday at Damai Laut resort near Lumut jetty. There are basically different travelers amongst all of us as you may know. Hence, the saying that "not all people can travel together even if you are good friends". Some of the categories can go from being the...

1. Person who loves luxury

A person who travels in style, and emphasizes beauty in where he/she lives. Nothing short of a 5-star hotel!

2.  Person who loves to rough it out probably backpacker style

Mode of traveling is mostly walking and nothing is planned out. Camping or couch hopping(sleeping on stranger's couches) is a norm.

3. Extreme budget traveller

Nothing more than a budget motel. No fancy restaurants or arranged tours because it blows the budget.

4. Laidback traveler that goes with the flow

Someone else can plan the itinerary but it's better not to. Just chilling by the pool will suffice if there is nothing planned.

5. Fussy traveler where everything NEEDS to be planned out
Before you leave for your trip, an excep spreadsheet is emailed to you on what you will be doing every hour of the day :p

Now, which one are you? Or are you a mixture of one or the other?
For me, I would have to say that I love to pamper myself while on a holiday + am pretty laidback when it comes to food, itinerary and such BUT where I live MUST be CLEAN! This brings me to my review of Damai Laut resort which I had high expectations of given the fact that Ben raved a lot about it....

From the entrance when we walked in, the lobby was welcoming but abit too messy, so I was wondering how the rooms would look like...

The view of the swimming pool from the top which was filled with people.

I liked the layout of the pool as it was spacious and had a waterfall BUT I couldn't stand some of the holiday goers wearing their clothes into the pool. It felt very unsanitary....don't you think?

Now, on to the room which was NOT very clean..

It was tiled instead of carpeted. The bed linen was stained!!!!!

The bath tub had weird stains on it which I thought looked like blood but it could be rust as well

That wasn't a pleasant sight or feeling for the bathroom. As a traveler, I feel that the standard of a room in a hotel is mostly determined by the toilet, whether it is clean and comfortable as they ARE a 4-star resort anyway, so I expected maintenance to be good!

The good thing about the resort is the myriad of activities on the premise itself. Besides swimming, there's tennis, ping-pomg, gym, board games, ATV riding, basketball, archery and of course

 the Beach!

BUT alot of the stuff like ping-pong and games and such is not maintained well which takes the joy out of playing :(

Moving on to my spa experience...

The entrance which was a little cluttered

Treatment room which was ALSO cluttered looking, doesn't give the tranquil feel

Worst of all, they put in a tacky looking plastic curtain which had a roach crawling around on it!!! eeekkkkk!!!

However, for those who love golf, their golf course is really beautiful!!

Many people come here for golf as they have packages which are really reasonable

That is my take on the resort based on my travelling style. If you ask me whether I would go back? My answer is a NO unless they refurbish it...

For food, you can venture out to eat some good ol seafood..the nearest would be the Hailam Seafood restaurant which is just around the corner...

The fish was really fresh and the taste for all the above dishes were just right. Not too salty!!!! Yummmzzz!!!

If you like to drive out even more, head to Lumut Town for some seafood shopping and sightseeing...

Take some pictures by the jetty

Damai Laut may be better for a family holiday especially for kids and it is not too pricey but if you fancy a more clean, comfortable location that has amenities nearer to you, I suggest driving abit further to Penang or even to Pangkor Laut resort if you want luxury. Like my previous post on it HERE , it's definitely worth the money paid...an unforgettable experience that will keep you coming back for more..

What type of traveler are you? Do you think my review of Damai Laut is justified or do you have a different opinion of it?

xoxo

If I had to choose which category I belong too, I'd say I'm a mix of the laid back traveler who loves luxury...LOL! I'm sorry to hear that your holiday accommodations were unsavory. But I'm hoping you guys had lots of fun on your vacation despite the condition of your rooms in that resort.
