A day as a tourist in Penang! Beautiful state:)

I want to take a little break from my posst of BAngkok to blog a little bit about my trip to Penang last week!!! My main objective to visit Penang last Friday was for data collection from the form six students at Methodist boys school. To be honest with you, I wasn't expecting an eventful day, and was just hoping that the students will cooperate with me, and I will get the data I needed, but oh boy! Did it turn out to  be a great day:)
We flew to Penang on Fireflyz, which is a low cost airline travelling short distances(a subsidiary of MAS)! Yes, it is a propeller plane, BUT it did not feel like one! Very pretty air stewardesses too....

Once we touchdown, we went straight to the data collection site which was Methodist boys school(MBS). I have to praise MBS for the cooperation given to me, not only were the teachers, and counselors helpful(They pushed reccess forward to get the students ready for the admnistration of my research! Unexpected!!!! And very grateful!), the students were very nice, and cooperative too! Thank you for those that participated and helped out!
One of the students who was really helpful, and she was a photographer too!!! Can you see all the effort I put in TRYING to look "more matured?" You be the judge of that!!

And after a very successful data collection, Mr.Ooi(one of the counselors, and the person I liase with) dropped us off at Lorong Selamat for our ever delicious lunch!Although they say it is a tourist area and it is a little more expensive, the food was YYUUMMMZZ!
Rojak! I will always remember this dish because it helped me win a public speaking competition:) Fond college memories!! In my mind, this is a representation of Malaysia because it is a mixture of all types of fruits with nuts and sauce,to create a whole dish, just like how Malaysia is comprise of different races which makes a whole country.

Popiah

The ever famous Char Kway Teow. You have to eat this dish when you are on Lorong Selamat, they are famous for it!

Before I proceed with the rest of this post, my mom and I were lucy enough to meet a friendly cab driver who sent us to the school from the airport and even offered to arrange our transportation for the rest of the day to sightsee!! Woo hoo!!!!
The first place we went to was the Sleeping Buddha temple, in which there was a huge Sleeping Buddha and many miniature ones around the temple. The design of the temple was really intricate, even the windows had designs, such as a carved Guan Yin(behind my mom in the picture above)

I really liked this, was really fun!!!! You put 50 cents in the machine, and they tell you your fortune based on the number that the red light stops at! Aren't these fortune telling things really fun???!!???

Next up, a place I really wanted to visit, the Peranakan mansion. Peranakan are terms used for descendants of the 15th and 16th century Chinese who immigrated to Malaysia(mostly Melaka) and many of them were inter-married with the local Malays. Their culture is very interesting because it is a mixture of two Asian cultures in one household. You can see elements of this throughout the mansion.
Foyer between the front of the house and kitchen area
The center courtyard
Very English dining area...
One of the bedrooms
I found it soooo cute, they had tables for tea all over the house!
Old skoool camera!
Very Chinese styled bedroom with the sink in the room
A more Malay styled bedroom???
The super cool kitchen!! Why????? Because they had utensils which dated back to the 1800- 1900's!!! History 101 for you right there!

After an extremely interesting cultural tour of the Peranakan mansion, the cab driver brought us to eat the famous Cendul at Penang road(remember this)!!! It was delicious, but I highly advise you to eat it after a few hours of a heavy meal, not right after, or else you cannot fully enjoy the taste of it! Actually, me being greedy, still manage to stuff almost the whole bowl in!!!aiks!!

We headed for foot reflexology, and a head and shoulder massage on the way to the airport! Aahhh....relaxing!!!!:)

It was truly a perfect day for both my mom and I. There weren't any hitches from A to Z, from the cab driver, to the kind teachers and students, my successful data collection, and our luck of being chaffeured around Penang on a mini tour!! So now...I hope everyday is like that!!hehehe... Like a friend once told me " the way a person start's a day will effect how it ends" and I wholeheartedly agree with it:)

xoxo
